APG delegation addresses Indonesian Parliament committee

26 September, 2012

An APG delegation met with Indonesia's Special Committee of Parliament on Monday 24 September 2012 to discuss Indonesia’s Counter Terrorist Financing Bill.

The Bill is designed to give effect to Indonesia’s commitment to implement the requirements of the international AML/CFT standards and in particular the establishment of an offence against terrorist financing, and measures to freeze terrorist assets pursuant to UN Security Council Resolution 1373. APG Executive Secretary, Gordon Hook, and Australian Department of Foreign Affairs Director, Peter Scott, spent 2 and a half hours with the committee's chair and members discussing the FATF standards and the extent to which that Bill complies with those standards. Committee members asked many questions on how the Bill might be improved.

Indonesia joined the APG in 1999 and since then has been evaluated by the APG on two occasions. The last evaluation was in 2008. The report of that evaluation is available on this website in the “documents” section. Indonesia is a strong supporter of the APG and held the Co-Chair position from 2006 to 2008. Indonesia has hosted a number of APG events including a Special Plenary Meeting in 2006, the Annual Typologies Workshop in 2006 and the APG Annual Meeting in 2008. Other workshops, meetings and events have been hosted by the Government over the last 8 years.
