23-27 September 2013, Joint APG /EAG Typologies Workshop, Mongolia

23 September, 2013

The APG's 2013 Annual Typologies Meeting and Capacity Building Workshop will be held from 23 to 27 September 2013 in Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia jointly with the Eurasian Group (EAG). The Workshop will be hosted by the Bank of Mongolia.

This workshop will provide an opportunity for APG and EAG members/observers to cooperate more closely on AML/CFT issues of mutual interest. The agenda for the meeting and breakout sessions will include a range of issues such as:

  • The risks and vulnerabilities in the gold sector to money laundering and terrorist financing;
  • The international movement of value and the money laundering risk it poses;
  • The risk of terrorist abuse in the Not-for-Profit/charities sector; and
  • Recovering the proceeds of corruption.

The meeting will also include a series of capacity building workshops following the formal Typologies Workshop which will focus on a number of areas including:

  • Government/private sector cooperation in understanding money laundering and terrorist financing risks;
  • Tax crimes and money laundering; and
  • Financial inclusion, in cooperation with private sector.

The invitation and agenda for the Workshop will be distributed to delegates closer to the event in September. This will be the first joint workshop with EAG.  APG members and observers have expressed a strong interest in forging closer ties with the EAG and this workshop will present a good opportunity to build on this interest moving into the APG's new mandate which commenced in mid-2012.
