FATF Plenary and Working Group Meetings 13-17 February 2012

17 February, 2012

The next FATF Plenary and Working Group Meetings will be held in Paris, France from 13-17 February 2012.

The FATF is an inter-governmental body consisting of 36 member-jurisdictions and a number of observers. It is the global standard setter for anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism. The FATF has a number of working groups including the Working Group on Terrorist Financing, the Working Group on Evaluations and Implementations, the International Cooperation Review Group and the Working Group on Typologies.  These working groups consist of international experts drawn from FATF member countries who collectively contribute to key policy decisions of the FATF.

Important agenda items in February include:

  • Consideration of policy issues relating to the current review of the FATF standards;
  • Matters relevant to the 4th round of evaluations (commencing in late 2013); and
  • International cooperation issues with respect to a number of countries (including some APG members) and determining the way forward for jurisdictions that have strategic and other deficiencies in their domestic AML/CFT frameworks.

These issues, and others, have an impact on the APG and its individual members, in the short and long term.

The APG is an Associate Member of the FATF and actively participates in its business meetings.  APG delegates are entitled to attend FATF events on behalf of the APG.  Nominations for attendance must be made by the APG head of delegation to the APG Secretariat.
