Training for jurisdictions about to undergo a mutual evaluation

17 March, 2008

The APG, through the generous sponsorship of AusAID and the IMF, will be conducting the first-ever training session in Singapore from 17 – 20 March 2008 for jurisdictions about to undergo an AML/CFT mutual evaluation.

The purpose of the training is to inform domestic agencies of APG member jurisdictions how better to coordinate and respond to the obligations involved in a mutual evaluation of their jurisdicition. The target audience is those persons who have been appointed as national coordinator or primary contact point for the mutual evaluation, as well as persons with legal, financial and law enforcement (including FIU) responsibilities.

Upon completion of this training, government agency participants will have:

  • A better understanding of the mutual evaluation process, including timelines, processes, practical/logistical issues and the central role of the coordinator in ensuring an effective and efficient evaluation;
  • A better understanding of the requirements of a high quality mutual evaluation questionnaire that will facilitate a productive and useful assessment process;
  • A draft plan for their mutual evaluation, including identification of key public and private sector stakeholders, milestones for the evaluation and agencies responsible for completing the questionnaire; and
  • A draft schedule for the on-site visit.

The training will be provided by experts from the APG Secretariat, the International Monetary Fund, the UK's Financial Services Authority, the US Department of the Treasury and the World Bank.  Participants are limited to government officials from the following APG jurisdictions about to be evaluated:

  • Bangladesh;
  • Cook Islands;
  • Republic of Korea;
  • New Zealand;
  • Pakistan;
  • Philippines; and
  • Vietnam.
